Web and network cameras come in all shapes, sizes, configurations and prices. You can spend a little (under $20) or a lot (over $2,000 for a system) depending on your specific needs and the size of your pocketbook. However, as with any technology there are a few things to consider before you purchase the web cam that will add "sight" to your "sound" communications.

greater ease of use. Adesso's web cam's are designed for the Windows environment. Support - ppp Adesso's web cams carry a one year warranty. Tech support is limited and it is clear they'd really rather you didn't call - there is no "800" number for toll free access and users are encouraged to utilize email if there is a problem. Adesso has a FAQ on their support page as well as a place to download drivers. Features - iii1/2 Basic web cam capabilities, the AstraPix PC210 and 230 have a 350K CMOS sensor for a bit better resolution. The AstraPix PC210 also includes a software bundle with Photo EZ, Video Monitor, Photo Greeting Cards, Photo Special Effects, Video E-Mail, Video Games and Digital Movie Producer and the PC102 includes Ulead Photo Explorer and Cool 360. The AstraPix 230 is a 1.3 mega pixel camera, supports USB 2.0 and includes Abovia PhotoIdea software. Overall Rating - %%%1/2 Competitively priced, basic webcam technology.

Built-in web servers on almost every model, motion sensing - alarms and video capture, cameras with infrared capabilities, audio capture, pan/tilt/zoom are available as well. Additionally almost every camera includes 4-5 (up to 11) levels of video compression, password protection and bandwidth control to ensure that the video coming from the camera won't "eat up" all the bandwidth on your network.
